DREAMING FOR FIZA

As a hijda, or eunuch, thirty-year old Salem Reisma has lived on the margins of Indian society in a Mumbai slum. Having both male and female genitals, but referring to herself and dressing as a woman, Salem has few opportunities for employment so is forced to beg. Accepting the stigma that society has placed upon her, she has endured a lonely existence without hopes for her life.

However, three years ago, through a twist of fate, she adopted a baby girl, Fiza. Now, Salem pours her love into her daughter, filling her days with dreams for Fiza.
